Reading the Year
How Is a Year Read From the Chart?
A yearly forecast rests on three layers read together. The first is the Vimshottari dasha, a system of planetary periods spanning 120 years, where the mahadasha and antardasha in force tell you which planet holds the main charge. The second is the transit picture, above all Saturn and Jupiter, whose passage over the twelve houses colours the months in a way faster planets cannot. Put simply, the dasha fixes the theme of the year, and a transit often decides the month in which that theme comes to the surface.
The third layer is the annual chart. In the varshphal tradition, which classical texts call the fruits of the year, a fresh chart is cast at your solar return, the moment the Sun comes back to the exact position it held at your birth. This falls on or near your birthday and the chart is read for the tone and turns of that year. Known as the Varsha Kundali and read through the Tajika system built for yearly forecasts, it sits beside the dasha and the live transits and brings the reading closer to a month-by-month feel.
