How Do You Read Your Kundli Report?

Start with the Lagna

The rising sign sets out the twelve houses of your chart. If your birth time is approximate, treat the Lagna as provisional, because the rising sign changes roughly every two hours. Your Moon sign is a different point: it names the sign the Moon occupied at birth, so it can differ from the Lagna. The Moon stays in one sign for about two and a quarter days, so the Moon sign holds up better if the recorded minute is a guess.

Check the running dasha

The Vimshottari timeline shows the planetary period you are in and the one that follows, which is where most questions about timing begin.

Read doshas in context

A flagged dosha is a prompt to look at its cancellations and at the strength of the planets involved, and it is not a conclusion.

When Is a Free Kundli Enough, and When Do You Need a Reading?

A free kundli is enough when you want your own positions on paper: the Lagna, the planets by sign and nakshatra, the running dasha and the standard dosha flags. It gives you a chart to study, to share with family or to bring to a consultation.

A reading becomes useful when a decision depends on interpretation. Marriage matching, the timing of a job change, a dosha whose cancellations need weighing and a muhurat all call for judgement across several parts of the chart at once, which a calculation cannot supply. Which Details Matter Before You Generate a Kundli?

What is a janam kundli?
A janam kundli, also called a birth chart or horoscope, is a map of the sky at your exact time and place of birth. It places the nine planets of Vedic astrology across the 12 houses of the chart, and everything an astrologer reads about you starts from this map.
What details do I need to generate a kundli?
Date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. Name and gender are optional. The more exact the birth time, the more accurate the Lagna and house positions.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Use your closest estimate. Planetary sign positions and dasha periods stay broadly reliable, though the Lagna and house placements may shift. For decisions that depend on precise timing, a Prashna Kundli consultation works without any birth details.
What does the free kundli include?

My kundli shows a dosha. Should I worry?
